Pathway 4: In possession of an equivalent Specialist Qualification recognised by the Dental Specialist Accreditation Committee of Malta, as per as per Article 29(4c) of the Health Care Professions Act.
Non-automatic Recognition: Are you in possession of specialist dentist qualification recognised by the Dental Special Accreditation Committee?
The DSAC will process each application on a case per case basis to ascertain equivalence to local national specialist training. The DSAC may invite the applicant to provide information concerning training to the extent necessary in order to determine the existence of potential substantial differences with the required national training, as laid down in Article 14 and in the DSAC regulations. The DSAC may contact the competent authorities of the host Member State or any other relevant body in the home Member State for further information.
In non-automatic recognition, when the specialist qualification does not meet the criteria for automatic recognition (not listed in the annex or where not both of the EU countries involved have an entry under the specialisation concerned), it may still be recognised in other EU countries under the general system for recognition of qualifications. If there are major differences between the qualifications, dentists may be asked to
• sit an aptitude test to check that they have the skills required in the chosen country
• complete an adaptation period
For details of what qualifications may be recognised on this basis and what conditions may be attached, see Art. 10-14 of Directive on the recognition of professional qualifications (2005/36/EC)
