Recognition of training in Malta
The Dental Training Committee of the Health Department is responsible for the implementation and running of the General Professional Training Programme in Malta and bodies seeking approval should apply to the DSAC. The Dental Training Committee has been accredited by the DSAC to provide the General Professional Training Programme according to the criteria recommended by the relevant professional association.
The DSAC is responsible for the recognition and approval of training programmes in Malta, accrediting General Professional Training and awarding the Certificate of Completion of General Professional Training. Currently the Dental Association of Malta is responsible for setting the criteria for General Professional Training in Malta.
Purpose of the training programme
The training programme is designed to equip trainees to master the appropriate technical skills and to develop a level of diagnostic skill and understanding sufficient to obtain the award of a CCGPT. On completion of the training programme, the dental surgeon can apply to the SAC for the award of a Certificate of Completion of General Professional Training.
Access to Training Programmes
Access to all SAC approved General Professional Training programmes is open to all House Dental Surgeons, Dental Surgeons in Dental Surgery employed with the Health Department of Malta. Dental graduates who are registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Council may apply for entry to General Professional Training programme following their commencement of employment
